What They’re Saying:

Republicans are women-hating, homophobic, racist nazis who have nominated a Cheeto tinged satan to be leader of the free world.

The Contrarian take on things:

The screaming on facebook and twitter is so loud that we can’t hear things like “I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology.” from the Cheeto tinged candidate.

Sure, Republicans have done and will do some rotten crap, but… so do the folks on the other side of the aisle. Two wrongs, certainly don’t make a right, but Democrats and Republicans have both disregarded Thoreau’s “That government is best which governs least..” and intrusions into American’s personal lives are more intense than ever.

The really ignorant take on things:

USA! USA! USA! USA!

Another really ignorant take on things:

FUCK TRUMP! FUCK TRUMP! FUCK TRUMP!

The seemingly obvious take on things:

There are Republican gays, Republican women and Republican minorities. So… are the Republicans actually women-hating, homophobic, racists? Don’t we enter troubling waters when we make assumptions about how a group of people behave and what they think based on things like skin color & gender. Could it be true that Republicans aren’t women-hating, homophobic, racist nazis?

But Seriously:

Republicans have been way too concerned with the behavior of free people – proposed and enacted legislation about sex, drugs, religion… all while saying “…government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.”

Thought leaders like Ben Shapiro & Milo Yiannopoulos seem to be changing the face and other parts of the Republicans into a party that truly does want to reduce the size and scope of government. Democrats and others often jump to the conclusion that reducing the size of government means letting the poor and others die in a pile of garbage.

I don’t know about that. I do know that there are people dying in piles of garbage now.

Also, Libertarians have been pestering everyone to reduce the size and scope of government for literally decades.

Trump did mention “Law & Order” a couple times during his speech. The perennial source of employment for New York actors notwithstanding, Law & Order isn’t really something a president has much direct control over. It’s a local thing unless we’re talking about martial law. He may think he’ll be able to do something or maybe he was just pandering to his audience. Politicians do that at conventions, right?

Interesting tidbit – I wanted to get the Thoreau bit right, so I went to Wikipedia which never gets anything wrong and found the full quote from Civil Disobedience. I’ve highlighted the part that I believe more people ought to quote.

I heartily accept the motto,—”That government is best which governs least;” and I should like to see it acted up to more rapidly and systematically. Carried out, it finally amounts to this, which I also believe, – “That government is best which governs not at all;” and when men are prepared for it, that will be the kind of government which they will have. Government is at best but an expedient; but most governments are usually, and all governments are sometimes, inexpedient.

— Thoreau, Civil Disobedience

Governing not at all… Would that mean that we’d have hyper-armed, militarized groups roaming the streets, carrying out their own personal brand of justice with no due process? We certainly wouldn’t want that, would we?

Why Two Minutes of Hate?

There are people (usually celebrities) who say they’ll move to Canada if a Republican is elected president. (They never say they’re going to move to Mexico. I find that odd, don’t you? It’s certainly more convenient.)

Others are literally terrified of a Trump presidency.

I hate defending him. I also hate having to add a disclaimer. But I’ve found that adding a disclaimer is a good indication that one is dealing with a “two minutes of hate” issue.

Hyperbole. Terror. Promises to leave the country… Yup: Republicans have been added to Two Minutes of Hate. Let’s all scream at them, shall we?
